Post 8: Personal Opinions

Hi hommies,
Today the topic is about personal opinions. My teacher wrote about immigrants and I think that is a good topic to talk about since is a national issue that we must solve.

My mom told me that she had never seen a black skinned person until she became older. She remembers her father talking about black people when he travelled to Ecuador, but nothing else. Now she sees them every day.

According to the news, there has been indeed a raise of immigration in Chile.

There are many problems with immigration: jobs (illegal jobs, low wages), lack of a good health system (well, this is for everyone isn’t it?), racism, etc. I always wonder myself…they come here looking for a better life and this is how we treat them? I feel sorry about them. How horrible can life be in their country to give everything for trying luck here in Chile? There are persons who are teachers, doctors, lawyers, and they are in the streets asking for food. I find this a terrible situation. Most them demand a regulation for immigration, and the government does nothing.

What I hate the most, is racist Chileans. They think that immigrants come here to take “their jobs” while by law (Work code), only 15% of workers can be immigrants. Also, they are mean only because their skin colour, if they were Americans or Europeans, I assure you this kind of treatment wouldn’t exist.

Hopefully there are non-Governmental Organizations helping with this issue.

Post 9 : Changes to my study program

Hi hommies, Today’s topic is “changes to my study program”. I like the study program that my career has (Engineering in Renewable Natural Resources),  actually that’s one of the reasons I chose it. I like the signatures it has because includes language, math and science, the basic knowledge. But I have one problem with one signature: English. English in most universities is obligatory but here is optional, and if you want to take it, you must fight against other people to take it, because many people want it and there are only 20 vacancies. My professors are wise but they don’t know how to teach, most of them don’t have a teacher title. I had a professor that was awful at teaching; he didn’t know how to make us pay attention or how to explain some concepts so I ended up hating the signature. The facilities are nice; there are labratories (old but still labs), and nice classrooms. I don’t like the chairs but last year the university changed some old chairs with new ones...

Post 7: Environmental Conflicts

Hello hommies, Today, this post will be about environmental conflicts. There is so much to explain but I will try to make it short. Today in Chile there's one particular conflict that has become very popular -sadly- because of the amount of pollution: Quintero-Puchuncaví's bay. Right now I'm doing a report of it and the scenario is impressive: first, media exaggerates the physical scenario. There is no oil in the streets or a black giant cloud above the town (not in the day at least). I have been in Las Ventanas twice because I have had to interview people who live there, and the way media shows it makes such an awful impression that the economy of the town has dropped a lot because people don’t want to go there and get sick. Then, there is the government: they don’t offer a proper solution. They gave a solution once: but it only helped industries to contaminate even more. Isn’t that stupid? Inhabitants have normalized the contamination so much that they don...

Post 6: Post graduate studies

Hi homies, today is really hot. I don't like summer, do you? Well, today's topic is post graduate studies. I like the idea of taking courses after you graduate because it allows you to improve your knowledge, and the best part is that there are so many that you can combine them and make yourself a unique professional. For me, I'd like to take one, but not here in Chile. I'm thinking about  Norway,  S witzerland or Canada. Those countrys have a lot of environmental knowledge, so it would be amazing to learn from them to apply here. I would like to take a course of lidership or/and marketing, because I want to learn how to relate with people, teach them about the enviorment and learn how to sell "green" products for big industries so they can mitigate the impact on the environment. I consider important how courses have adaptated nowadays. Many years ago courses could only be teached in presence, but today there are online courses which I find a great way to ...
